Chess in Gimpo 3

Gimpo, west of Seoul, has a small chess scene of its own that centres on one academy. The Thinkgrow Research Institute played the only over-the-board Chess960 tournaments found in the capital area, a first edition in June 2026 and a second in July 2026, and it holds a FIDE-rated rapid at its Guraeyeok branch. A meetup gathers on Saturday afternoons at its branch by Sau Station.

Gimpo Chess Club is the venue of the numbered Gimpo City tournaments: the Gimpo City Standard Open, now past its tenth edition, and the Gimpo City Rapid Open, which began in December 2025. The pages give the club's name but not a street address. An ICHESS branch opened in Unyang in July 2026 and appears with the academies. Entry details for each event are printed on its notice.
